4-H Newsletter:
November 2007 Text Version

Fall Greetings,

The change of season and time has quickly come and gone.  With that, many changes with Kitsap County 4-H come your way as well.

First, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to our 2007/2008 4-H Council Executive Board.

President-                  Brian Coolbaugh
Vice President-          Dave Scott
Treasurer-                  Kay Hibler
Secretary-                  Heather Blanchard

4-H Council meetings are held the first Thursday of every month with members and leaders always welcome.

Second, an enrollment fee has been established through the WSU-Kitsap County Extension Office.  The price is $9 for regular projects and $10 for equine, ATV and leagues.  These are due with enrollment, December 1, 2007.

Lastly,  be alert for new teen events taking place throughout the county.  We are re-establishing our Teen Advisory Council and want to get as much program input from teens as  possible.  Trainings will be offered alongside social events so check your emails as we plan the first stage next month.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have.  Have a wonderful fall!

The Quality of School-Age Child Care in After-School Settings

Growing evidence tells us that quality after school programs can make a difference in children’s lives.  But what defines quality in after school settings?  This brief by HFRP’s Priscilla Little offers an overview of the features of high-quality after school settings, including an examination of key research on links between program quality and developmental outcomes.  The brief, published by Child Care & Early Education Research Connections, also reviews current practice in program quality assessment, and a set of quality-related considerations for policy makers.  You can read it online at:
