Mildew Prevention in Clothing
Mold spores that produce mildew are present
in all homes. With a bit of prevention, however, the mold will
not be a threat to your family's wardrobe.
Mildew needs moisture to develop, and is most destructive to
cotton, linen, silk, wool, rayon, leather, wood and paper. Most
synthetic fibers are more resistant to mildew, but may also
succumb in the right conditions.
Preventing mildew involves keeping closets, drawers, and the
clothes in them clean and dry. Make sure all clothes are completely
dry before storage. Cool air has less moisture than warm air,
so circulation in closets and other storage areas slows down
the growth of mildew.
