Summer Sewing Camp
The Kitsap County CTA Summer Sewing Camp is a week-long camp open to young people, ages 8-18, interested in learning basic beginning sewing skills. The sewing camps are usually held in a Kitsap County Park Community Center in either July or August.
This year there will be a beginning sewing class, an intermediate class, and mini-camps focusing on a variety of topics.
Registration is now open for all three classes, with a deadline of May 16th.
Registrations;
We teach:
- Introduction and use of the sewing machine, and basic sewing tools.
- Beginning knowledge of commercial patterns, selecitng pattern sizes and choosing fabric.
- Fabric and grainline knowledge
- How to lay out pattern pieces and cut them.
- Basic construction techniques needed to complete 2-3 sewing projects.
- Life
Skills of wardrobe care, including laundry practices and
basic repair, and consumer skills.
Class fee: $30 for beginning and intermediate sewing, $20 for each mini-camp (scholarships are available for students who would otherwise not be able to attend. Contact Kitsap CTA program through WSU Extension). Students are asked to supply their own portable sewing machine, owner's instruction manual, fabric, and matching thread, and any necessary notions for their garment project.
