Native Tree Species
The choice to plant a Pacific Northwest native tree species has many benefits in urban and rural residential areas. Native trees generally need little watering or nutrients beyond their initial establishment. Disease and insect problems are greatly reduced as native trees in good health have the ability to survive and thrive even when attacked and or defoliated by pests. It is important to know a little about the required growing conditions for different trees. Douglas Fir and Red Alder require full sunlight, so don't plant these trees in the shade of other trees. Western Hemlock and Western Red Cedar both are tolerant of partial shade and can be planted in the shade of larger trees.
