Tree Health and Root Rot

Trees are a dominant plant in our landscape. Fortunately trees of the Pacific Northwest are generally very healthy and subject to few diseases and insect problems. One disease that does occur that does cause problems for homeowners and others is root rot. Root rot is present throughout Kitsap County and is found on old rotting root segments and stumps from the past. When healthy tree roots come in contact with old infected roots, the tree can become diseased. Root rot is a slow acting disease that can take years to kill the tree. There are no remedies available, so the best solution is to promote tree vigor and avoid excessive stress.
